On 30 September 2024 CYCLEVIA is launching a call for applications for the creation of new self-deposit banks and collection points for waste oils and their containers throughout mainland France.
The collection of waste oil from professionals is currently efficient but there is room for improvement regarding its collection from private individuals. Successfully tried and tested in Guadeloupe in 2023 and 2024, these new collection trials will boost the network of existing municipal recycling facilities and provide additional self-deposit banks for private individuals, that are safe and potentially nearer to them thereby lifting the hurdle of travelling distance.
Collection will cover both waste oils and their containers where much remains to be done for the latter. For local authorities, the collection/retrieval of waste oil containers is of concern and is a real financial burden. Through this initiative, CYCLEVIA, has decided to go beyond the scope of its responsibility (waste oils) and embrace the problem of waste oil containers, for which no satisfactory solution currently exists.
These trials would not be complete without providing informative guidance on this waste because many of those having this waste do not realise that it is dangerous to health, causes serious environmental damage but can in fact be recycled, provided that it is collected under the right conditions. A communication campaign during the trial period will provide the new locations as well as information on good practice.
